In desktops the monitor can be easily tuned off by the button provided for it. However, it can be a complicated task to turn off the laptop’s screen while leaving the processes carry on.

Here is the solution:
Using Power Management Option
One can easily set the option to switch off the screen after the specified time under the “Power Management Option” found under the screen savers tab (Right click on desktop » Properties/Display settings » Screen Savers).
This option is good, but sometimes irritating as monitor keeps turning
off after the specified time.
FN + F6 / FN + F11
Some new laptops have the option of turning off the screen using the “FN” key along with some other key. However, this is limited to certain laptops only.
Using ATI tray icon
The ATI tray icon also has an option to turn off the screen. One can assign the shortcuts and use it easily.
Using Software
If none of the above do the trick, then use Turn OFF LCD. The software is a freeware and does the trick like magic.
